A series of serious allegations have surfaced against an individual known as Manoj G. Nair, who currently identifies himself by multiple titles, including "Ambotti Thampuran," "Manavendra Varman Yogathirippad," and "Raja of Vettath." Manoj has recently attracted attention for organizing a ritual event titled Maha Sarpa Yagnam in Dhoni, Palakkad—an event that critics claim is not rooted in any recognized Shastra or Tantra tradition.
According to critics and researchers examining his background, Manoj has constructed a fictitious lineage and royal identity by assuming a series of historically and theologically incompatible titles. For instance, the name “Yogathirippad” is a designation historically exclusive to Namboothiri Brahmins, while “Varma” is associated with Kshatriya lineage—an unusual and contradictory combination in Kerala’s cultural context. Additionally, the title “Vellattiri” refers to a royal house (Valluvakonathiri) distinct from the Brahmin community, creating further inconsistency in his self-identification.
Further scrutiny has revealed that:
The Vettath royal family, to which Manoj claims descent, was declared extinct in 1793 as per William Logan’s Malabar Manual.
His claim to be the Yogathirippad of the Trikkandiyur Temple Yogam contradicts historical records, which affirm that such positions were held exclusively by Namboothiris, and that the Raja of Vettath was never traditionally associated with that Yogam.
The titles “Vazhunnor” and “Ambotti Thampuran” have no documented usage in the regions Manoj associates them with, casting doubt on their legitimacy.
Despite these inconsistencies, Manoj allegedly succeeded in gaining support from a number of respected scholars and community elders—some of whom even participated in ritual ceremonies affirming his claimed status. Observers suggest this may be due either to misinformation or other influential factors, including financial backing.
Evidence presented in ongoing public posts—including documents and video material reportedly originating from Manoj himself—further question the authenticity of his lineage and activities. It has also been reported that although Manoj was granted membership in the Namboothiri Yogakshema Sabha, local chapters are now reconsidering his status. The Olavakkode sub-chapter, for instance, has indicated it will not be renewing his membership.
The matter has raised broader concerns about how unverified claims of heritage and spiritual authority can influence public perception, particularly when supported by ceremonial displays and strategic use of traditional titles. More revelations are expected as further documentation is released.
